Faiths In Conversation

Good Evening Everyone!

As I stated before, I am Kat. Well, my name is Kat, but I am much more than a name.

I am a mother to more children than most people dream of having. One day, I might just give you a number.

I am divorced, which is something I never thought I would say. Co-parenting for us is fairly simple and easy, with minimal drama between us as far as our children are concerned.

I am a Muslim. I was raised in a Christian home and raised my own children in that faith tradition. Now that I am Muslim, I encourage them to search and understand religions before deciding for themselves. Right now, I am the only Muslim in my family.

I am a writer. I have always been a writer. In all my writing, I strive to connect with people through understanding and common ground. As I’ve said before, I believe we all want the same thing…we just have different ways of going about it. I am also working on a book. One day, when I finish my novel, I will share the name here with you.

I have a degree in English and Writing with a minor in Psychology. I am also in the process of getting my TEFL certification. Do I use my degree for anything currently? No. Of course not. Will I use my TEFL? I sure hope. I have already tutored individuals who have been learning English. I enjoy it very much and would enjoy helping others in the future.

I started this blog because I need a place to write what I live. Too many places on the internet divide us. I love people. I want every person to feel understood and important. I understand that it is not my job to do or be this for every person. However, I believe we can each encourage such behavior toward each other.

This idea began when I watched Muslims and Christians debate each other online. Both sides claim victory but in the end, both side misunderstood each other’s points and I was left saddened. While I understand these were debates and they were seeking victory, I ask what is victory if no one outside your religion understands your points? Is victory worth degrading someone else and showing a side of yourself that drives people from your beliefs rather than to it? It is my goal that we can have conversations rather than debates; that we can hear each other and listen with a desire to understand even if we disagree in the end.

Conversations are the key to understanding.
